Mentor Sessions

for photographers

Thank you for your interest in a mentor session with me. I have been creating images and studying photography for over 20 years, and I am still constantly growing as a photographer. I’ve found that I always learn the most from fellow photographers and I would love to pass some of my knowledge on to you. Each mentor session can be done either in person or online. I’ve split them up into 4 different components, but I would be happy to customize a session to exactly what you want to learn.

Light

This is the single most important part of photography. By teaching you how to find & use it effectively, you'll overcome these common obstacles:

>My photos don’t look sharp
> can’t get a preset to work on all my images
>I spend too many hours editing
>I can’t keep my colours consistent
>I can only shoot at sunset

We will spend two hours looking at how light works, where to find it and how to use it. Light is a magical thing that I could talk about for days! Before this session, I’ll go through your work to look at how you use light and show you light in a way that you’re not already using it.

Storytelling

A story can be told in a single image or in a series of images. If you want people to be wowed by your work, you need to give them a story. The idea of this component is to go through your work and talk about what you’re trying to say. I will also reference leading contemporary and historical photographers, and show you how to present your work in order to captivate your audience.

Portfolio Review

You might find that most of the well-intentioned people around you tell you that your work is wonderful. Although these compliments are encouraging, they can also limit our progression. I will take a critical look through your portfolio and give you constructive feedback on which areas need improvement as well as highlight what your strengths are. I will evaluate your image selection and help you choose the best images to include so you can put your best foot forward. We will also go through who you would ideally like to have as clients and discuss how to gear your imagery towards them.

Gallery Review

The final gallery of images that you deliver to your client is even more important than the photos in your portfolio. I will go through a full gallery of images with you to help you see the photos through the eyes of your client.

Included in every mentor session is a Q&A where you can ask me anything. I'd love to help with workflow, post production, lens choice, camera technique and anything else you are curious about as a photographer. I will tailor our session to you, so please let me know what you'd like to learn.
